WHO IS BEHIND ONE OAK?

We are a sustainable fashion start-up focusing on the design of accessories, more specifically sustainable watches, bags, backpacks, and hats. Also, for each item purchased, we plant much more wood than what we have used to create the item, this helps us fight climate change.

ONE OAK began at the end of 2016. Founders, Carlos and Guillermo Íñiguez, were passionate about watches and thought that the ominous destruction of the environment created a space in which to establish an environmentally sustainable accessory brand that was intimately linked to wood.

Since the beginning, they knew that innovation in design and sustainability should be at the core of their identity. We take special pride in the fact that ONE OAK products often trigger conversations on responsible consumption.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

ONE OAK products are mainly crafted out of wood and, therefore, have a reduced environmental impact. For example, the carbon footprint of creating a wood watch is half than to create a conventional stainless steel one.

At ONE OAK accuracy and transparency are essential. Our environmental impact and carbon offset is calculated by external consultants. Thanks to this collaboration we have identified areas with a potential of up to 50% of reduction, which we are working on reducing day by day.

REFORESTATION PROJECTS

We fight climate change, by designing and undertaking reforestation projects in endangered areas in which we have become personally involved. During our first year, 2017, we focused all our efforts in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon region, where we planted 700 local trees in areas threatened by massive logging along with NGO Fondo Verde and local volunteers.

One of the most significant features of the project was the magnificent pedagogical efforts and the training sessions we held for the locals. During our second year, due to the fires in Galicia in the month of October 2017, we decided to combine our work in the Amazon region with reforestation efforts in Spain.

We began reforestation of the Madrid mountains. Due to the success of the campaign, we decided to undertake the greatest project until now: to plant one tree for each of the products sold over Christmas and create a large firebreak with 2,000 local trees in Galicia, in an area taken over by eucalyptus trees, which spread fire easily.

Thanks to our commitment to sustainability, the Cadena SER radio station and Vodafone have granted us the Estartapeando award to the best sustainable start-up of 2018.

In February 2019 we completed the first phase of our most ambitious reforestation project, Renacer de las Cenizas in As Neves (Pontevedra) where we planted 9,000 local trees to recover a municipality where a fire in October 2017 devastated 90% of the territory. In June 2019, we launched a reforestation project to change Spain. We started 5 reforestation projects in Madrid, Catalonia, Galicia, Andalusia, and Valencia so that each of our customers may choose in what region they want their trees to be planted.
