GOAL +5,000 TREES
The main goal behind our project is to absorb some of the pollution caused by the airport. To achieve this, we will recover and enrich the area’s flora with indigenous species such as holm oak, almond or elm.
We want this project to become a symbol for environmental care also in the most urban areas. We hope that the hundreds of neighbors and volunteers will enjoy it and hope that a greener future is possible for Madrid.
PARACUELLOS DEL JARAMA
Paracuellos del Jarama is a municipality located about 25 km east of the city of Madrid, just opposite Terminal 4 of the Adolfo Suárez - Madrid Barajas International Airport.
It’s named after the Jarama River, which flows across the community of Madrid from north to south before flowing into the Tagus.
The area where we will carry out most of the reforestation is located nearby in a recreational area, which sits on top of a terrace with stunning views of the city.
Madrid, with over 5,000 pollution-related deaths per year, is one of the most polluted areas in Spain. As we view the city from Paracuellos, we inevitably see the cloud of pollution we have become accustomed to, especially on winter days with the least amount of rain.
The airport, in addition to fueling an economy that generates 10% of the GDP of the Community of Madrid, is at the same time responsible for more than 20% of the city’s pollution.
YOUR TREE AND YOUR PHOTO
NOVEMBER - DECEMBER 2019
The next reforestation in Paracuellos will take place in November 2019, with the invaluable help of hundreds of neighbors and volunteers. We will plant the trees of all the customers who have chosen to help improve air quality in Madrid and, together with our remaining projects, fight climate change.
We will send you a photo of your tree, with the name you chose at checkout, in early December to the e-mail you provided.
