GOAL +1,500 TREES
The aim of the project is to help recover the indigenous species of the Mediterranean forest such as holm oaks, carob trees, or Aleppo pines in a natural environment that’s been devastated by fires and also to help reduce the risk of flooding.
We will achieve this together with local authorities and hundreds of friends and neighbors, including the little ones, so that together we learn to value the importance of caring for and preserving our natural environment.
The municipality of Finestrat is located in the province of Alicante, at the foot of the impressive mountain Puig Campana which rises to over 1,400 meters above sea level, and only 8 km from the municipality of Benidorm.
Although the historic center of the municipality is located inland, Finestrat has a cove that is almost 300 m long, a main tourist attraction and an important economic driver.
FIRES AND WATER
Approximately 3,700 hectares were devastated in 2018 by fires, which affected different parts of the Valencian Community, twice as many as in the previous year.
Finestrat has experienced two major fires in the last 15 years. The one that took place in 2006 and burned 190 hectares and a later one in 2009, the most serious of all, which burned 1,000 hectares of land. Both fires caused significant loss of forest mass and biodiversity in the area.
YOUR TREE AND YOUR PHOTO
FEBRUARY - MARCH 2020
The next reforestation in Finestrat will take place in February 2020, with the invaluable help of hundreds of neighbors and volunteers. We will plant the trees of all the customers who have chosen to help Finestrat recover the biodiversity it lost in the fires and, together with our remaining projects, fight climate change.
We will send a photo of your tree, with the name you chose at checkout, in early March to the e-mail you provided.
