WILDFIRES PROJECT

GALICIA

THE PROJECT

GOAL +2,500 TREES

We continue to support our big REBIRTH project, making sure that the areas we have already reforested thrive and we expand our new ecosystem consisting of thousands of indigenous chestnut, ash, and birch trees.

All these new trees, in addition to helping recover biodiversity, will act as a great green firewall in case of fire. We still feel moved whenever we think about everything we've experienced in this great adventure. It's an honor and a pleasure to continue doing this work.

THE AREA

AS NEVES, PONTEVEDRA

As Neves, in Pontevedra, was the seed of our great green movement. It was our first big project.
As Neves is a municipality located at the border with Portugal and separated from our neighboring country by the spectacular Minho River. Since 2018, we have planted more than 9,000 indigenous trees with the help of over 700 volunteers and friends.

We have worked along the riverbank, where we planted ash and birch trees, and further inland, we planted chestnut trees.

THE PROBLEM

FIRES

As Neves, located in Galicia, suffered one of the worst fires in recent memory in October 2017.

An astounding 90% of this beautiful municipality was completely burned. This fire was the reason we decided to reforest in Galicia. We heard the news and got right down to work. One of the main reasons the fire spread so rapidly was the massive presence of eucalyptus trees, which cause fire to spread easily.

YOUR TREE AND YOUR PHOTO

NOVEMBER - DECEMBER 2019

The next reforestation in As Neves will take place in November 2019, with the invaluable help of hundreds of neighbors and volunteers. We will plant the trees of all the customers who have chosen to help As Neves recover from the great fire and, together with our remaining projects, fight climate change.

We will send a photo of your tree, with the name you chose at checkout, in early December to the e-mail you provided.
